Film buffs and culture vultures interested in the art of our neighbors to the south have no excuse not to attend this exclusive LACMA screening series and exhibition. Opening September 22 (with member previews beginning two days prior), LACMA will present masterpieces of Mexican cinema from the 1940s and '50s to accompany a landmark exhibit devoted to master cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa. Figueroa shot over two hundred films over the course of his life and helped forge an iconic and long lasting image of Mexico during the Mid-Century era. Film clips, paintings, photos, posters and archived documents will be on display, in addition to pieces by contemporary artists and filmmakers inspired by the distinctly Mexican imagery associated with Figueroa’s work. Admission to Under the Mexican Sky will run $5-$10.
