One of our favorite HiFi hangouts also happens to be one of the most empowered: Genever, one of the best new bars of 2018, isn't just a well-considered, gin-focused cocktail destination; it's also women-owned, -run and -designed, and co-owners Patricia Perez, Roselma Samala and Christine Sumiller regularly put women to the front.
That's especially true this weekend, when the bar welcomes burlesque show Burlesque Las FilipinX back for its second "celebration of Filipina empowerment and the art of burlesque."
On Sunday you can catch performances by dancers Mizon Garde, Di' Lovely and Kitana Louise, complete with tease-y costumes, artful reveals, a little T&A and probably more than one or two feather fans.
Admission runs $40 per person, with a two-drink minimum; if it sounds a little steep (and really, it shouldn't), just remember that a portion of proceeds benefits FilAm Arts, an organization that helps advance arts opportunities and preserve the cultural heritage of Filipinos. It's like you're seeing burlesque for a good cause, and really, how can you argue with that?
