Bill Goodman says
Beans, Biscuits, Family and Friends: Life Stories by Bill Goodman is a series of essays highlighting life in rural Kentucky many years ago, climbing and backpacking adventures with his friends from Glasgow, KY and a vivid portrait of his artist-cousin Joe Downing, an abstract painter who was better known in Europe than in the United States.

Along the way, the author fondly remembers his mother's beaten biscuits, his attempts to grow the perfect tomato, and the excitement in reaching the summit of two of the highest mountain peaks in America.

Life Stories has a little something for everyone--a time long forgotten in rural Kentucky, the thrill of victory at 14,000 feet and the beautiful story of a man from Horse Cave who went to Paris, France on vacation in the 1950s and never came home.

Bill Goodman is the host and managing editor of Kentucky Tonight on Kentucky Educational Television. Additionally, he serves as host for Education Matters and the conversation show One to One with Bill Goodman. He also writes the KET blog Bill’s Eye. A native of Glasgow, Kentucky, Goodman earned his MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Spalding University in November 2012. In April 2013, he was inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. His essays have been published in The Louisville Review, New Madrid: Journal of Contemporary Literature and Life’s Vivid Creations, a publication of the Marysville Community and Technical College. Bill and his wife Debbie reside in Lexington, Ky.
