Artist Statement:

I have been fascinated with the moon and its nature of transforming since I was a child. As I grew older and learned that women’s cycles and the ocean’s cycles moved in unison with the moon’s waxing and waning, I became even more enamored with this satellite that visually mirrors change.

As the moon changes and the energies around us shift, ceremony is often used to mark these changes. I love the sacred space created by ceremony. In my 20’s I had traveled all across America and had been privileged to participate in various ceremonies, circles, and sacred celebrations from various cultures. At that time I lived close to nature, and gracefully synched and flowed with her rhythms

More recently, I participated in fellow artist Tara Remington’s Mindful Creativity workshop and was again reminded of the power and necessity of ceremony in my process. Jamie Sams’ book “The Thirteen Original Clan Mothers” has also inspired, and continues to inspire my artwork.

Today, I live in the city, but the moon helps me remain connected to the rhythm of nature. When I paint I create ceremony by lighting incense, and turning on music that calls in the energies that inspire me. My artwork in this show strives to convey a sense of ceremony and sacredness often depicting women in nature, honoring the powers of the moon, as well as their own changing natures.

Blessings of Love and Light,
