Leatherbound Books: Buttonhole Three Ways with Bonnie Stahlecker
Saturday, August 29 from 9a-5p & Sunday, August 30 from 10a-5p
Skilled in the book arts and pop-up wizardry, Bonnie Stahlecker is an organized and patient instructor with a passion for art and a considerable amount of knowledge and experience to share. This is the second of Bonnie's bookmaking workshops at Lettersong; here, she introduces the Buttonhole Stitch as a simple yet attractive method of attaching book sections to the cover through a buttonhole opening in the spine area.

Everyone will make and take home three books using this stitch - two will have leather wrappers, the third will have a case made from binder’s board and book cloth, and one of the books will have a fore-edge flap with a closure system.
Participants will learn how to line the leather, make the case, create interesting spine openings, and sew the buttonhole stitch. Each book has 96-120 pages and measures five or six inches in height.

All paper, leather, book cloth and binder's board are provided. A detailed list of tools to bring will be emailed to those signing up. Participants may also want to bring their own decorative papers to add creative touches to the books, as well as enhancing the covers with decorative stitches.

Cost for both days: $185
Materials fee: $35
