The Louisville Orchestra says
An all-Russian program! Young Lev Zhurbin’s (called “dizzying, versatile “ and “strikingly original and soulful” by the New York Times) Louisville premiere opens the concert. Known as LJOVA, (pronounced L’yova), he’s creating a piece co-commissioned by the Louisville Orchestra and the Britt Festival. The centerpiece of this program, Rachmaninoff’s exceptional concerto No. 3, is performed by Andrew Tyson who makes his Louisville debut. Called “a real poet of the piano” by BBC Radio 3, Tyson already received the prestigious Avery Fisher Career grant and is getting rave reviews wherever he plays. The mighty Shostakovich spills blood and glory in the dramatic and emotional Symphony No. 11 to close this concert.
