The earliest surviving silent feature film directed by an African American, Within Our Gates was recently restored and a soundtrack by DJ Spooky was added. The film follows a young black woman whose path along the Great Migration from the rural South to the urban North leads to revelations about her identity. 1919, U.S., DCP, BW, 106 minutes.
