In 1964, despite the controlling eyes of the dictatorship, Margarita de Lucas and Antonio de Navascues opened Edurne, the first gallery of its kind, and it's now the doyenne of the Madrid art scene. This engaging couple is credited with promoting many of Spain's top artists when they were just starting out. Luis Gordillo, Antonio Saura and Gerardo Rueda were among their earliest protégés. Among their latest projects is the Sculpture Garden in the Espacio Azara of their new centre in El Escorial, where you can see a large abstract piece by Diego Canogar titled 'Tetramorfo Perforado'.
