If you like your theatre in unusual site-specific venues, this new piece of theatre from the Royal Exchange could be right up your alley. Or fire station to be more precise..

The shocking and stark experiences of a teenager running away from boredom on the streets of a northern town are the subject of 'At Night', a rare site-specific theatrical event taking place in the unique surroundings of the 74 year-old Rochdale Old Fire Station, the first and only time the venue has been used for public entertainment.

Located on the approach to Rochdale station, the building and its drill tower are a local landmark and retain many original, time-worn features. But tomorrow the red doors of the building will close behind the audience and, as the lights go out, it will become theirs to explore.

The play is described as 'part fairground, ghost house and part house party', so expect stories to unfold and ‘happenings’ to occur - from the exuberance of a living room dancefloor to the forbidding possibilities of a dimly-lit street corner.

'At Night' takes place at Rochdale Old Fire Station on Wed Dec 10, 7.30pm & 8.30pm. Find out more here
