Kicking off its series of screenings that explore the nightmares and angst of American suburban life, Grimm Up North presents the ultimate in the darker side to suburbia with 'American Beauty', which 15 years since its release has gained undisputed cult reputation.

Starring Kevin Spacey as the titular character, the 1999 dark comedy centres on Lester, who, as he slips deeper into depression and disenchantment, starts to break down the perfect allusion to life behind the white picket fences.

Each film screening in the series will be introduced by a short lecture exploring the film and themes of American suburban angst.
