Cat On A Hot Tin Roof

An exciting new version of Tennessee Williams' classic tale

The Royal Exchange follows the hugely successful run of 'Hamlet', starring Maxine Peake, with an unusual adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ Cat On a Hot Tin Roof'.

Unusual? Well it’s not every day that you get a bona fide classic with a brand new score written by the band White Lies.

Beautiful Maggie and her hunk of a husband, Brick, return to his father’s home to celebrate Big Daddy’s birthday. But in the heat of the Deep South’s summer nights, tensions arise, family secrets erupt and things best left unsaid get spoken…

It’s all classic Williams’ drama, the undercurrents of repressed sexuality, familial obligation versus the need for freedom, the roles that men and women must play. It’s hard not to have the film in your head – Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor both at their most beautiful. Running throughout November it’ll be interesting to see what the Exchange is going to do with it.
