Melbourne Museum has some news: next year they will host the Swedish History Museum’s huge Vikings exhibition, which will officially be the largest collection of Vikings artefacts to ever be displayed in Australia.

This international blockbuster will feature more than 500 artefacts from one of history’s most fascinating civilisations. If you’ve seen an episode of the History Channel’s Vikings program (highly recommended for those who have a Game of Thrones shaped hole in their bingeing schedules) you’ll know the Vikings culture is one that’s quite misunderstood, having raided and traded themselves across Northern Europe from the 8th to the 11th century.

Taking over the Melbourne Museum’s touring hall from March 23 to August 26 2018, you’ll be able to get a look into the domestic life, rituals and beliefs of the Viking people with an abundance of rare treasures, including the skeletal remains of a Viking ship, Viking swords dating from 700-1100 AD and one of Thor’s hammer pendants.

Pop it in your diary for 2018.

The Melbourne Museum is bringing its hidden treasures to life in an immersive new exhibition.
