Picture this: it’s Friday afternoon. Mum has just picked you up from school and she’s said the four words you’ve craved for months: “We’re going to Blockbuster”. You’ve now been tasked with picking out two overnights and four weekly VHS tapes, and it’s likely you’ll spend the next hour and a half deciding whether to watch that new-release action flick or going back to old faithful movies you’ve borrowed time and time again.
Remember that? Welcome to Thornbury sure do. That’s why the food truck park is hosting a pop-up cinema this April called Blockbuster’d. The team are transforming the warehouse space into an indoor cinema with beanbags and a 4m x 2m screen. There is also a dedicated cocktail bar delivering drinks directly to your seat during the movie.
The line-up is an ode to those old school VHS classics you used to hire, like Scream, Dirty Dancing and Clueless. There’s also Uncle Buck, She’s All That and more showing, with a few more screenings to be announced soon.
Tickets are $25 and include a burger from Mr Burger and your first beer or wine.
