From comedies to dramas, Europa! Europa will screen a huge collection of European films in cinemas across Elsternwick and Hawthorn

Europa! Europa Film Festival returns for a third year this February and March with a curated selection of films from across the European continent. You can expect a bumper line-up of 47 films from 28 countries that will transport you from the edge of your seat and across the European continent.

The festival will take place across Melbourne and Sydney between February 15 and March 11, serving up a smorgasbord of European films throughout the three weeks. Melbourne screenings will be held at Classic Cinemas in Elsternwick and Lido Cinemas in Hawthorn.

While many Aussies will be forking out the cash to splash on a summer vacay overseas, why not save the money and be whisked on a visual journey of Europe through the diversity of the festival's cinematic gems? The selection caters to a circus of different genres and styles, traversing drama, comedy and documentaries to capture the heartfelt, the entertaining and the thought-provoking.

One of the highlights of the 2024 festival will be the opening night showing of The Promised Land, Denmark’s submission to the Academy Awards. The epic historical drama follows an impoverished 18th century war hero as he embarks on a journey to form a settlement on a harsh Danish heath.

Other picks include Freud’s Last Session, which chronicles the intellectual clash between Sigmund Freud and C.S. Lewis, and The Beast, which explores a near future where AI rules and emotions are perceived as a threat.

Europa! Europa Film Festival will also present two 4K restorations of masterpieces from the ‘60s and ‘70’s, namely Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Conformist and Jean Luc Godard’s Contempt.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $19.50 for concession holders and members. Check out the full program or book tickets at the website.
