An outback thriller gets a premiere screening plus Q&A at Lido Cinemas

It’s not unheard of in this country for medical professionals to find their way into movie making: just ask Dr George ‘Mad Max’ Miller. In that tradition comes Angus Watts, a Gold Coast radiologist who has written and produced his first feature film, Locusts.

Watts and his director, Heath Davis, will join cast members members including Nathaniel Dean (Alien: Covenant) and Justin Rosniak (Animal Kingdom) at a Q&A screening of Locusts at Lido Cinemas on Friday October 18 at 7pm (arrive early for pre-film drinks).

An outback crime thriller that doffs its Akubra to Wake in Fright, Locusts concerns tech entrepreneur Ryan Black (Ben Geurens) who returns to his tiny, sun-scorched, beer-drenched hometown to attend his dad’s funeral. Here he gets caught up in a blackmail plot involving his ne’er do well brother Tyson (Nathaniel Dean). The cast also includes Jessica McNamee (The Meg) and the late Damian Hill (Pawno).

The film screened at Cannes this year and was warmly received at the Gold Coast and Newport Beach Film Festivals. Respected Filmink critic Erin Free rates the film highly, and its musical score (by Burkhard Dallwitz) is up for an ARIA Award.

This is a chance to see a new Australian thriller and meet the makers. Tickets are $21.50 ($17.50 concession), and selling fast.
