And make sure you check out our ultimate guide to the festival, as well as the best local acts who'll be gracing Melbourne stages.

Our top picks for kids' comedy

When: April 7-16

This award-winning family circus show is flipping into town to offer a world filled with whimsy, wonder and amazement. Expect to see world-class illusions, tumbling acrobats, highly skilled jugglers, elegant aerialists, a clown with a six-foot balloon and, of course, heaps of side-splitting comedy. The one-hour show has been given five stars from the likes of Kiddo Magazine, Glam Adelaide and The Clothesline.

You're familiar with The Flintstones, yeah? Well, this show is basically that: two cavemen live in a wind-powered home, and they need to figure out how to keep their power supply going. Best of all, there's a mix of kid-friendly jokes and clever jokes for adults designed to go over the kids' heads. The show sold out its entire run in both 2020 and 2021, so act fast.

Before becoming a stand-up comedian and radio presenter, Josh Earle was a school librarian, so it makes sense that he's got a knack for kids' comedy. In this show, he wants to introduce you to some aliens craving ice cream and a boy named Brian who thinks everything is boring.

Parents, if you haven't heard of Matty Grey, then gather round. He's won awards including the Best in Fringe Kids at the 2013 Sydney Fringe and won the Best Children's Event Award in 2017 and 2020's iterations of Fringe World. Long story short, he's the real deal, and his new show is likely to make you "laugh your guts out of your butthole".

While he certainly has a reputation as the Willy Wonka of weird, the prince of putrid and the king of kids' comedy, his official name is the disgustingly distasteful Mr Snotbottom. If you love gross, slimy gags, then you'll want a piece of this action. The show is basically a cross between Mr Bean and Shrek, so expect to be grossed out but in a fun way.
