What happens if you take four physical comedians, a multi-instrumentalist, a five-year-old and a smoosh them all together in a sharehouse? A new kids comedy sketch show, that's what. Queer comedy troupe Po Po Mo Co have been using the 2020 lockdowns productively, putting together a new online sketch show for kids.
The Wholesome Hour is a comedy show for kids aged five to ten that is premiering via La Mama theatre's online channels on Tuesday, August 11. The show takes inspiration from classic 1990s Australian children's shows like Round the Twist, The Ferals and Lift Off, while also promising content that is neither patronising to kids nor mired in ideas of heteronomity. PO PO MO CO artistic director Kimberley Twiner says: "We want to make kids work that has a new bent to it, that is about embracing wildness and celebrating how wonderfully psychedelic this world is."
You and your kids can watch The Wholesome Hour premiere at 3.30pm on Tuesday, August 11. Please note that despite the show's name, the event runs for approximately 15 minutes.
