Support fresh Aussie artists at this Melbourne Music Week mash-up

In November, the city is treated to a ten-day soundtrack of new contemporary sounds when Melbourne Music Week (MMW) explores the undercurrent of Melbourne’s vibrant local music scene (with some acts from further afield). There’s always a bustling festival hub set up, and this year a fan fave from 2011 – the giant, audio-responsive glowing structure Kubik – is returning to Alexandra Gardens as the musical heart of the festival, which runs from November 14-23.

If you’re a fan of flaming indie rock and moody pop with a touch of ’80s nostalgia, you’ll want to head to this dazzling music zone on November 18. The party-loving whiskey drinkers at Jack Daniel's are hosting a huge night of music featuring very cool Melbourne acts and a few talented groups dropping in from Sydney.

Body Type will be flying in from the harbour city. Originally from Perth, this lady-led alt-rock group has been making waves on the East Coast with their lo-fi, grungy tunes, and we’re excited to hear floaty-then-heavy tracks like ‘Ludlow’ and the jangly electric guitar stunner ‘Silver’. They’ll be joined by small-town Victorian sister act (yep, the musical genius genes made it to four siblings) Stonefield, who’ll be blasting out hits from their four rockin’ studio albums.

Solo artist June Jones will also be joining this parade of fab music, bringing her tragic but often humorous musings on love, heartache, mental health, hopelessness and optimism to the glowing stage. This punky-pop Melbourne singer-songwriter just released her debut album Diana this August, so it’s a great opportunity to see the live performance at its freshest.

The final act on the bill is Sydney five-piece Eagle Eye Jones. These classic rockers are giving off big coastal holiday vibes with their groovy riffs and old-school surfer style. Listen out for recent bangers like ‘Never Get you Down’, ‘Do Old Houses Dream’ and ‘Takes From the Lakes’.

The big alt-rock party will kick off at 7pm at the Kubik and warble through till 11pm. Pre-purchase tickets to ensure a spot on the dancefloor.
