Red Spice Road was one of the first Melbourne eateries to embrace the 'hawker' style of dining, with punchy Asian flavours given a modern Australian spin.
It's a place that lends itself to boisterous group dining, and in July, Time Out and Red Spice Road are inviting readers to a big celebration of Thai cuisine, including two hours of free-flowing wine and beer, for just $120 per head.
Head chef Dylan McCormack has put together a menu that demonstrates his mastery of seven Thai regions:
From Chiang Mai:
Khao Khan aromatic stewed pork knuckle, fried egg
From Lampang:
Jungle rabbit karipap, wild peppercorns, karachi, tamarind jaew
From Issan:
Roasted smoked duck laap, torn herbs, charred onion, nam phrik
From Pak Chong:
Barbecue quail, coriander, white pepper
From Nonthaburi:
Choo Chee tiger prawns, makrut, roasted chilli, holy basil
From Bangkok:
Oxtail, cumin, coconut, cardamom, star anise, compressed pineapple
From Ratchaburi:
Passion fruit, kaffir lime, coconut water, burnt white chocolate
Each course promises a step up in finesse, from the street food of Chiang Mai culminating in the high end cuisine of Bangkok.
Fans of expertly made Thai food won't want to miss this banquet, limited to 120 guests – you can book now.
