Time Out says

How much sushi do you think you can eat? Time to find out.

Given how easy it is to rack up a fortune piling up plates at sushi trains, Tokosan’s all-you-can-eat sushi menu is a economical option. Every Tuesday the contemporary Prahran bar and restaurant lets you eat as much sushi, gyoza, and takoyaki for $29. The dishes are brought out yum-cha style, with diners asked to select what they’d like from each serving dish.

You can expect to stuff yourself full of maki sushi, nigiri, gyoza, takoyaki and even a morsel of golden fried chicken. The menu is subject to availability but features the likes of crisp vegetable tempura nigiri, just-chewy octopus and perennially popular salmon and avocado rolls. Seafood options are king with at least three separate prawn options – the classic ebi nigiri is fine but the mayo-topped whole-fried prawn is better – as well as squid, eel, tuna, and salmon (spicy or regular).

Vegetarian sushi lovers have enough bites to get by thanks to tamago nigiri, fried vegetable gyoza, slightly sweet inari age and every veggo’s go-to maki, avocado and seaweed. The all-you-can-eat menu also includes miso soup and a hearty serving of edamame – a cynic would say they’re included so you can’t eat as much sushi but they’re still a welcome break from all that rice.

Tokosan’s all-you-can-eat sushi feast has only one caveat: you must buy a drink during your meal for the offer to apply. Other than that you’ve 90 minutes in which to become as round as a rice ball – given the waitstaff’s frequent offerings it’s not hard.

All-you-can-eat-sushi runs on Tuesdays from 6pm, 7.30pm & 8pm. $29 plus a drink.
