Michaela Burger's A Migrant's Son is a story that will strike a chord with countless Australian families. The musical tribute to her Greek migrant family was a sell out hit at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and scored a Helpmann nom – as well as winning the Frank Ford award at Adelaide Fringe last year. The show was set to travel around Australia this year until fate intervened.
The good news is you can see Burger perform A Migrant's Son for free this month thanks to a little friend we like to call the internet. Geelong Arts Centre is presenting the show, filmed live to an audience earlier this year, for one night only on October 22.
A Migrant's Son follows the true story of Burger's father Luke, who tread a path not made for the faint of heart. The productions travels 100 years through time and from Russia to the Outback, following Luke from his childhood as a delivery boy for his family bakery to his time as a teenage miner in Coober Pedy and the launch of a chain of discount grocery stores in Adelaide.
Geelong Arts Centre will stream A Migrant's Son at 8pm on October 22 via its Facebook page.
