What happens when the biggest popstar in the Philippines is kidnapped and the only people who can save her are her fans? Find out in this action-adventure play coming to Melbourne straight from the Philippines. It's a wild ride, taking in rooftop chases, knife fights and underwater shoot-outs, all in order to free a superstar from a conspiracy that goes to the very top of the nation. The show is set to a soundtrack drawn from 40 years of Filipino pop, from the peace anthems of the 1970s to power ballads and contemporary Filipino hip-hop.
Are You Ready to Take the Law into Your Own Hands is created by Sipat Lawin and Friends. It's playing at Arts House, North Melbourne as part of Asia TOPA, where you can also check out What Is Chinese?, an experimental work – part documentary, part performance, part installation – by Shanghai artists Xiao Ke and Zi Ha.
