Two decades ago, the MTC presented the Australian premiere of Skylight; a play by renowned British playwright David Hare which is now acknowledged as a contemporary classic.
This month, Skylight will return to the MTC stage, this time with MTC associate director Dean Bryant at the helm and starring the inimitable Colin Friels (Endgame, Red) and Anna Samson (Birdland, The Sublime) as recently reunited lovers with many years between them. As they attempt to rebuild their relationship, the pair debate their way through painful memories, opposing ideologies and self-destructive tendancies.
Bryant has taken care to ensure that Hare's rapid-fire double-hander is as impactful and relevant as ever. "Rarely do the personal and political come together in such an exciting and theatrical evening," he says. "It's a thrilling opportunity to experience actors on fire up close."
