Time Out says

FCAC is hosting a stack of professionally run creative workshops you can do from home

Footscray Community Arts Centre is undeniably the home of the arts in Melbourne's west. In the Beforetime, the organisation not only hosted exhibitions, performances and gigs, but they also provided a space for locals to engage and learn more about the arts through workshops.

That committment hasn't wavered, and FCAC is back with a series of online creative workshops led by some of Melbourne's best artistic talents. There are classes available for both kids and adults.

Pop Art Happy Hour (Oct 31)
Love the Keith Haring mural in Collingwood? Or maybe you took a fancy to the NGV's Crossing Lines exhibition? FCAC is hosting an adults-only paint and sip class where artist Jessica Ibacache will teach you how to paint like the celebrated artist.

Afrobeats (Oct 13-Dec 8)
We've all become a little too familiar with sitting this year, but Dagogo's Afrobeats dance classes are a surefire way to get moving again (and have a tonne of fun at the same time). These classes mesh together a variety of West African music and Dagogo has expertise in not just teaching dance, but in teaching dance via camera (he's been doing it since May). The classes suit all fitness levels but are for adults only.

Kids' Club Circus (Oct 15-Dec 3)
Embrace your child's desire to monkey around with this active online workshop. Circus performer Franca Stadler runs the classes, which teach kids strength, flexibility and confidence in a non-competitive environment.

Creating for Wellbeing (Oct 26-Nov 16)
Zoe Keystone (who regularly runs school holiday workshops) is back with a workshop series that teaches kids how to express and respect their feelings through art. The class sizes are kept small for a tailored experience and most materials needed can be found around the house (or you have the option of additionally purchasing a craft kit). Keep in mind kids aged six to nine, and nine to 12 are split into different groups that run at separate times (both on Monday afternoons).

Painting for Beginners (Oct 28-Nov 18)
Artist Ben Howe leads this introduction to the techniques of oil (or acrylic) painting over four 90-minute online sessions on Wednesday evenings via Zoom. Ben covers the four elements that produce a strong painting – edges, values, shapes and colours – and you can bet you’ll be well on the way to painting your own masterpiece by the end of it.

FCAC Toddler Jam! (Oct 14-Dec 16)
Razz Rasmussen keeps toddlers enthralled through percussion, singing, dancing, story-time and mindfulness. Her popular classes, which utilise a wide range of music not limited to children’s music, are now free and online each Wednesday, 10am to 10.45.

Makers Market (Dec 12-13)
FCAC will host a curated array of 20 to 30 stalls with local artisans selling handcrafted, bespoke and high quality items just ahead of Christmas. Stallholder expressions of interest close at 5pm on October 23 so if you’re a maker be sure to get in quick.

And in news to warm the hearts of food and wine lovers, FCAC has announced that Myrtle Wine Café will open on November 4, occupying the famous bluestone Henderson House building. Myrtle Wine Café is the new venture by Ellen Turner of popular Kingsville eatery the Willow Wine Café. The Myrtle menu will feature high-quality ingredients, with brunch, takeaway, picnic kits, coffee by Five Senses and a selection of Victorian and international wines.
