In March 2021, more than 100,000 people marched across Australia in protest of the (then) recent allegations of gendered violence in federal politics. A year has past since then but there's still a long way to go when in comes to ensuring justice and equality for all.
The March 4 Justice returns in 2022, hitting the streets in protest in cities across Australia on Sunday, February 27.
March 4 Justice is calling for action on four key demands. They are:
-Full independent investigations into all cases of gendered violence and timely referrals to appropriate authorities. Full public accountability for findings.
-Fully implement the 55 recommendations in the Australian Human Rights Commission’s Respect@Work report of the National Inquiry into Sexual Harassment in Australian Workplaces 2020.
-Lift public funding for gendered violence prevention to world’s best practice.
-The enactment of a federal Gender Equality Act to promote gender equality. It should include a gender equity audit of Parliamentary practices.
Anyone who wants to put a stop to gendered violence and inequality is welcome to attend the rally, but please be a good ally by championing the voices of women and non-binary folks on the day.
March 4 Justice is happening Australia-wide on Feb 27. The Melbourne event will be held in the CBD in Bourke Street mall, from 11am. Stay updated via the March 4 Justice website and Facebook page.
