Friday, May 27, 2016, at 7:00 pm, the Memphis Police Department will conduct its Annual Memorial “Sea of Blue” to commemorate law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

The “Sea of Blue” consists of law enforcement officers from various law enforcement agencies traveling in procession on a route with blue lights illuminated on their cruisers. This light display is a visible sign of honor and in memory of a fallen comrade within the law enforcement community.

The “sea of blue” will begin at the parking lot of Tiger Lane, Liberty Bowl Stadium. Prior to the start of the procession, there will be an opening ceremony at 7:15 pm, consisting of the presentation of Colors/National Anthem, prayer, opening remarks by Director Rallings, Fraternal Order of Police and West TN Concerns of Police Survivors, a selection by the MPD's Peace Makers.

At 7:45 pm, the procession will proceed South on East Parkway, West on I-240, North on I-240, East on I-40, West on Sam Cooper, South on East Parkway, and conclude at Tiger Lane.

“This event serves as a reminder to every law enforcement officer of the dangers that our profession holds and the ultimate sacrifice made by officers killed in the line of duty. As we prepare for this Memorial “Sea of Blue”, please pray for the families of those law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty and for the continued safety of the many men and women who serve our communities, cities, states and this nation,” said Director Michael Rallings.
