Memphis Botanic Garden says
Paint, speckle, “ombre,” or variegate your own yarn.

We’ll be coloring with acid dyes (Don’t worry, the acid is just vinegar!) on wool. We’ll cover immersion dyeing, mixing colors, measuring, and setting the color.

We’ll talk about pooling, painting, and keeping it safe. Then we’ll dye to our hearts content…or until lunchtime, whichever comes first.

Attendees need to bring dishwashing gloves, apron (or wear clothes that can get stained), and close-toed shoes that can get stained. We’ll supply 3 skeins of yarn for you to work with. We will have additional skeins of yarn available for purchase, or you can bring a few skeins of protein yarn (alpaca, silk, wool, cashmere, mohair, wool/nylon or wool/cellulose).

No acrylic. White or cream works best. Skein size limit, up to 50 gm. skeins of bulky yarn or roving, up to 100 gm. skeins of lace to worsted/DK weight yarn. We’ll have a skein winder on site.

If you have fiber questions in advance, email MBG members $40/non-members $55. Call 901-636-4128 for more information or to register.
