Chainmail Basics says
Become part of a 3000-year-old jewelry-making tradition using a pair of pliers and an assortment of metal rings.

Learn how to weave metal to create your own strong, versatile chains that are fantastic on their own or that can be embellished.

In this workshop, you will learn about proper ring handling, basic terminology, how to choose the correct size ring for the weave you want to make, and how to make 3 different weaves suitable for men or women.

We’ll start out with the basic 3-in-3 that makes a lovely and versatile chain to get you comfortable opening and closing rings and to give you a solid foundation in chain making. We will then move to the complex-looking, but easily-mastered, Byzantine.

We will finish with the flat chain known as the Helm or Parallel weave. All materials and tools are included in class for you to complete two bracelets and one pair of earrings. Additional rings will be available for purchase in class if you wish to turn your bracelets into necklaces, or your earrings into a bracelet.

Project kits and tools will also be available for purchase. MBG members $70/ non-members $85. For more information or to register, call 636-4128.
