MEANWHILE IN MEMPHIS The Sound Of A Revolution
A film about the modern DIY Memphis music community.

Official website: www.

A documentary film about the modern DIY Memphis music community. From Jim Dickinson to Tav Falco to The Grifters, various Memphis artists will speak for themselves and let you know what true musical independence is all about in the bluff city.

This documentary film focuses on the independent and maverick D.I.Y. spirit of the modern Memphis music community. Memphis is known to the world as a musical mecca: the home of the blues, Soulsville, and the birthplace of rock’n’roll. Elvis. BB King. Otis Redding. The list goes on and on.

However, after Stax Records closed in the mid 1970’s, the music industry left Memphis. Also since then, the-powers-that-be in town have focused on promoting the “dead” legends of Memphis music. All the while, the new Memphis musicians arose out of the underground. Despite the challenging conditions, these musicians formed a community unified by independent themes. With this maverick philosophy, Memphis stands happily alone as the ultimate outlaw music town.

Jim Dickinson, The Oblivians, Al Kapone, The Grifters, Alicja Trout, Monsieur Jeffrey Evans, Tav Falco, Jay Reatard, Mud Boy & The Neutrons, The North Mississippi Allstars, and more!
