Art Basel Miami Beach celebrates its 21st birthday this year, meaning the annual art bacchanal is poised to once again dominate the season. Since launching in 2002, Art Basel has become North America's premier art fair and an anticipated fall event in Miami. This year's show is open to the public Friday, December 8 through Sunday, December 10, with the invitation-only Vernissage, VIP and media previews scheduled to take place between Wednesday, December 6 and Thursday, December 7. This year, the Premium+ ticket tier returns. The unlimited four-day pass includes access to the Vernissage on Thursday, entry to select museums and a yet-to-be-announced guided show tour by ArtNexus.
What is Art Basel Miami Beach?
Art Basel Miami Beach is an annual art show held at Miami Beach, first staged in 2002. Art Basel, which stages four major fairs each year—in Hong Kong, Basel, Miami Beach and, for the first time this year, Paris—focuses on modern and contemporary art and puts nearly 300 galleries from across the globe in front of the art world’s top curators, museums and collectors. The week of Art Basel has become a major draw for Miami, with parties, satellite fairs and major events being held in conjunction with the show—and now known collectively as Miami Art Week.
Art Basel Miami Beach comprises six sections: Galleries (works from leading galleries), Meridians (large-scale, boundary-pushing projects), Nova (works created within the last three years), Positions (dedicated to emerging artists), Survey (works highlighting artistic practices of historic relevance) and Kabinett (curated exhibitions). The show also includes a schedule of moderated panels as part of its Conversations series.

What's new at Art Basel 2023?
The massive annual art fair scales back a bit from its massive 20th-anniversary show last year. Still, it will bring 277 leading galleries from 33 countries and territories around the world to Miami Beach, including 24 first-time exhibitors. Nearly two-thirds of this year’s galleries hail from North and South America, joined by an array of exhibitors from Europe, Asia and Africa. Visitors can also expect an improved layout and enhanced rest, food and beverage areas. As usual, the fair will collaborate with Miami's world-class institutions, private collections and cultural partners for an expanded program of exhibitions, events and activations across the city throughout the fair week.
