Sometimes it can feel like the city of Miami is its own country with its own crazy set of laws and patchwork international identity. Case in point: the city-sanctioned, second annual pig pardoning ceremony going down at Latin Café 2000 this Monday. Akin to the presidential pardoning of the turkey, this new Miami tradition hosted by Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez will spare two lucky piggies from ending up the centerpieces at the Christmas feast this year. Instead of becoming the slow-roasted lechón Miamians love so much, rescued pigs Peppa and Petra will live out their lives with other happy farm animals at the local Aguacate Sanctuary. To celebrate the occasion, enjoy complimentary spinach croquetas and homemade Cuban cafecito throughout the event.
