University of Minnesota, School of Music says
"Desegregation Efforts of the Twin Cities and the Impact on Black Music Educators"

A colloquium presented by Yolanda Williams, Music Education PhD Candidate at the University of Minnesota

Attempts to “level the playing field” in education have historically been executed through desegregation/integration efforts. These efforts have had the unintended effects of reducing numbers of Black teachers and schools in Black neighborhoods. The history of the Black Music Educators of the Twin Cities (BMETC) coincides with these efforts.

The event will take place Thursday, November 17, from 4:45-6:30, in room 280 Ferguson Hall. We've built in some time for discussion and reflection, which will make for a memorable event.

Free and open to the public
