University of Minnesota Bookstore says
Bestselling author Simon Winchester will discuss his book Pacific: Silicon Chips and Surfboards, Coral Reefs and Atom Bombs, Brutal Dictators, Fading Empires, and the Coming Collision of the World’s Superpowers on Wednesday, October 26 at 4:00 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Bookstore in Coffman Memorial Union, 300 Washington Ave. S.E. Minneapolis.

Pacific is a stunning achievement of scholarship and a grand survey of today’s Pacific Ocean. Winchester highlights ten moments since 1950 that speak to greater trends and larger truths about the ocean’s importance in the modern world.
Learn how the issues of commercial exploitation of the ocean’s resources, the visible effects of global warming and pollution, and China’s political ambitions as they impose their influences on an ever-widening sphere of the ocean’s western region impact us today. Winchester explores the collision between east and west, and what we can learn from both sides of the Pacific.

Winchester will sign copies of his book following the discussion. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, or to order a signed copy visit
