After a short waiting period behind the rest of the province of Quebec, shopping malls in Montreal are permitted to open today.
It comes just in time for the heatwave that's set to hit the city this weekend, leaving a lot of Montrealers looking for places to cool off as they shop around with new social distancing measures in place.
The question is, who isn't opening today? The biggest names on and around the island include Promenades Cathédrale, Place Montreal Trust, Complexe Desjardins and Centre Eaton downtown; Carrefour Angrignon, DIX30 in Brossard, Centre Rockland near TMR and Fairview Mall in Pointe-Claire; Place Vertu and Quartier Cavendish are opening; even Côte Saint-Luc and Plaza Côte-des-Neiges.

When shoppers start rolling into malls today, they can expect a lot of social-distancing and sanitization measures in place. There will generally be a limited amount of customers allowed in stores at one time with line-ups happening just outside of entrances, hand sanitizer will be made available where possible, plexiglass partitions will be placed at cashiers alongside employees wearing masks, and the use of features such as touchscreen directories found in places like Centre Eaton will not be permitted.
While shops are able to reopen, restaurants are only permitted to open on June 22, meaning that food courts will have to wait their turn before they are able to open to the public as they feature sit-down area, but restaurants that can provide take-out services like at DIX30 will be able to sell food to go.
