Susan (“Sukey”) Steckel, LMSW is an Assistant Professor of Practice with the University of Tennessee College of Social Work where she specializes in courses related to human behavior and the social environment, evidence-based practice with children and adolescents, social welfare policy, and leadership and organizational development. Prior to joining UTK, she worked for the State of Tennessee for over 15 years in a variety of capacities, including serving as the children’s mental health director for the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. She is passionate about applying Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) research to practice, trauma-informed care, and systems change. Ms. Steckel received her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Tennessee, and has served several terms on the board of the National Association of Social Workers, Tennessee Chapter since 2006 and is a founding member of the Tennessee Chapter of the Network for Social Work Management.
