Presented by Friends of the Cabildo

The night before the 2016 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival kicks off, Friends of the Cabildo and the Louisiana State Museum will show films from the first official Jazz Fest in 1970. The festival, held then at Beauregard Park (now Armstrong Park), featured Duke Ellington, Mahalia Jackson, Pete Fountain. Former WDSU News cameraman Don Perry donated the films in 1978 and they were digitized in 2012 for generations of Jazz Fest fans to enjoy.

Music historian Dr. Charles Chamberlain will moderate the event and Band-in-a-Pocket will perform during the sections without sound. Space is limited for each showing and this is only shown one a year so don’t miss out!
