The Mahalia Jackson Theater inside Louis Armstrong Park will host a grand 75th Birthday celebration for Big Chief Alfred Doucette. Doucette, a lifelong resident of New Orleans and living legend, wants to celebrate in style and extends the invite to all.

“In New Orleans, there’ll be no party without us!” is one of Doucette’s songs and he lives by this motto. He is a man of many talents; these talents are evident with all he has accomplished in his 75 years. Big Chief Doucette is a New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian who has been inducted into the Mardi Gras Indian Hall of Fame twice—once as Big Chief of the Flaming Arrow Warriors and again as Chief Council of the Flaming Arrow Warriors. He is also a master carpenter; master race car builder and driver; past owner of the legendary R&B club Nite Cap lounge; and thoroughbred horse trainer and racer. Doucette is an artist who creates elaborately beaded Mardi Gras Indian suits and a renowned musician, songwriter and entertainer.

Door will open at 7p.m. and a cast of New Orleans finest musicians representing a who’s who in the R&B music scene are scheduled to perform. The list includes: The star of the event, Chief Doucette, with guest appearances by Cyril Neville, Gaynielle Neville, James Andrews and the Crescent City All Stars, Guitar Slim Jr., Sharon Martin, Michael “Soulman” Baptiste, Walter Wolfman Washington, Al “Carnival Time” Johnson, Ernest "Box" Fontenot, Judy of Ooh Poo Pah Doo and many others still being added.

In addition to the cast of musicians performing, The Mardi Gras Indian culture bearers will be represented in full regalia. Chief Doucette, along with members of the Flaming Arrows Indian Gang, will dress in traditional Mardi Gras Indian suits, various members from Social Aid and Pleasure clubs will be 2nd Lining. New Orleans Baby Dolls will also be on stage adding to the uniqueness of this truly New Orleans experience.
