LeMieux Galleries says
LeMieux Galleries is pleased to present an exhibition of recent works by Baton Rouge artist Kathryn Hunter. The show will open on Saturday, August 1, 2015 with an artist’s reception from 6-9 p.m. in conjunction with the Contemporary Art Center’s Whitney White Linen Night. The show will remain on view until September 12, 2015. LeMieux Galleries is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Hunter’s current work explores the idea of suspension over the course of existence: the quiet of a suspended moment, the stillness and volume of suspended space and time, the dissipation of story and experience. Through the use of mixed media, the work reflects on the patterning of life, interdependence, and the narrative between human and animal.
Kathryn Hunter grew up in Decatur, Alabama surrounded by good north Alabama storytellers and embellishers. After one year of college, she went looking for adventure in the tall mountains of Montana and Wyoming where she resided for almost ten years. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking from Montana State University, Bozeman in 1999. She returned to the South in 2000 to attend graduate school at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. In 2003, she earned a Master of Fine Arts in printmaking. Currently, Hunter continues to make art in addition to operating a custom, letterpress printing business called Blackbird Letterpress in Baton Rouge.
