Maple Leaf Poetry Featured Poet: C.M. Soto says
C.M. Soto is a New Orleans poet, screenwriter, and playwright that additionally creates lyrical soundscapes under the name Vinylux. She will be performing excerpts from her anthology of previously published poetry, "These are the Rooms to My Mother's House," and upcoming multi-media performance art piece, "Ice Scream Theater."

THE CHAPBOOK: "These are the Rooms to my Mother's House" is a collection of nightmares, fairy tales, and family with 30+ poems and original photography by C.M. Soto.

THE PERFORMANCE ART PIECE: Surround-sound theater assaults the senses in this chilling true narrative illuminating the author's journey from being an addict’s child to becoming an addict, then mother herself. Avant-garde ballads and unnerving video echo Pink Floyd’s "The Wall" and Tom Waits’ "What’s he Building in there."

THE VENUE/SERIES: The Maple Leaf Bar hosts the longest continuously running poetry reading series in North America. The poetry series has been a platform for a great diversity of writers to present their work, from the published and well-established to the novice poet alike. The reading series was founded in 1979 by Franz Heldner, Bob Stock, and the consummate poet laureate of the Maple Leaf Bar, Everette Maddox.
