Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts says
The Sinfonia Winds concert is the Phi Mu Alpha premiere wind ensemble, comprised of all-star performers from across the Fraternity, under the direction of composer and clinician Dr. David R. Holsinger. In addition to being a fraternity brother, Dr. Holsinger is one of the most popular American composers for band and wind ensemble music, and he writes for all musical levels from intermediate middle school band through professional wind ensembles.

The concert will feature the World Premiere of David’s new work, The Path, which has been commissioned by Phi Mu Alpha. The music on the program will range from marches to American concert pieces, including works by John Philip Sousa, Clifton Williams, Vaclav Nelhybel and Claude T. Smith, along with the premiere of Brother Holsinger’s work. Any band or orchestra student, or lover of American band music, should not miss this. The program features some of the best known and most loved wind band composers in the US, all of whom were members of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.

Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity was founded October 6, 1898 at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA. It is the world’s very first, oldest and largest men’s fraternal society dedicated to the advancement of music and the promotion of brotherhood. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia has over 250 collegiate chapters and colonies at universities across the United States.

All of Phi Mu Alpha’s public concerts are offered free of charge to veterans of the US Armed Forces and their families. Veterans can claim these tickets in person at the box office by presenting a valid active military veteran’s ID or discharge papers.
