KnowLouisiana / Louisiana Cultural Vistas says
New Orleans is steeped in tales of voodoo spells, hauntings and tragedies that remain part of the city's lore from centuries ago. Historian Carolyn Morrow Long will discuss the long history and mysteries surrounding Marie Laveau's tomb in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, followed by a presentation by historian Sally Asher on the 1866 shipwreck of the Evening Star, a hurricane-sunk steamship that drowned notables and the notorious, from architect James Gallier to dozens of prostitutes destined for brothels in the Crescent City.
