We'll try to wait for ya! Costuming highly encouraged... ...we ARE the wild things! WEATHER UPDATE: The rain that's been stopping bulldozers is breaking up just in time for the Wild Things to dance & protest! The forecast is for a dry & beautiful sunset! There is super convenient, adjacent parking. Please check back for further updates! .............................................................................................. Who is “City Park For Everyone Coalition” and what are our concerns? City Park For Everyone Coalition is the alliance of New Orleanians working together to halt the development of the new golf course while preserving the park's continued open access of green spaces and the abundance of wildlife by providing sustainable, non-privatized, alternative revenue methods and gaining greater transparency and accountability from City Park Leadership. Our Concerns: • The net effect of this new golf course is to privatize what is public space for New Orleanians of all socio-economic backgrounds. • The footprint of the new golf course will destroy wildlife habitat, making it harder for all the wild creatures who pass through the park to survive. • Despite there being a clear majority of public comments in opposition to a new golf course at the park, the City Park board has pushed through this plan behind closed doors. • It is likely this golf course will actually LOSE money. There are already 11 golf courses in the metro area & several are currently in the red. • The Board of City Park is neither democratic nor representative of New Orleans. The board is 95% white and upper class, while New Orleans is majority African-American, working and middle class. Our Demands: • Immediately halt construction of this planned golf course between Harrison and Filmore Avenues. Remove the fencing and leave these public spaces open to the citizens of New Orleans. • Re-Open the public comment process, and proceed democratically with serious consideration and response to public opinion upon the use of the current area slated for a new golf course. • Reform the board of City Park. The board should represent all neighborhoods, and all socio-economic classes of the citizens of New Orleans. • New Orleans City Council should put a millage up for vote for the citizens of New Orleans so that the park can have a consistent revenue stream and the board will be accountable to local government.
