The blueprint to a great museum adventure certainly includes "The Art of the Brick."

Budding engineers and artists will be equally enthralled by the masterpieces Nathan Sawaya has intricately crafted with over 1,000,000 toy blocks. (No, that number is not a typo.) Venture to one of your favorite kids' museums, the New York Hall of Science, beginning Sept 28 for a glimpse at this record-breaking exhibit.

"[It] takes LEGO somewhere you wouldn’t expect and shows you things you have never seen before,” Sawaya said of his work. “The goal with this collection of art is to demonstrate the potential of imagination and the power of creativity.”

And that creativity comes in spades. Visitors who love dinosaur activities will gawk at the artist's 20-foot t. rex, which is comprised of over 80,000 pieces alone. Creative youngsters who participate in fun art classes for kids will enjoy Sawaya's recreation of Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Additionally, photographer Dean West partnered with Sawaya to produce a multimedia collection of LEGO brick-infused photos.

If this isn't enough to whet your adventurer's appetite, make sure to participate in the exhibit's interactive elements as well. This includes "Hidden Hands," a sensory-based task where kiddos must build a mystery object inside a covered box. LEGO Drag Race lets builders make a car and test out its capabilities on various inclines. And then there's free play with LEGOs, and no kiddo is going to refuse that!

"The Art of the Brick" runs from Sept 28–Jan 26 and costs $7 in addition to the museum's admission ($16, $13 for children 2–17). Learn more at nysci.org
