We certainly hope you have your party hats—er, we mean mouse ears—ready.
On Nov 8, “Mickey: The True Original Exhibition” opened its doors to New Yorkers, and this is one 90th birthday bash you won't want to miss.
“There are incredible installations where we will deep dive into the history of Mickey,” says curator Darren Romanelli. “There will be a mix of archives that will be in direct dialogue with a curated assortment of contemporary artists that created specific works.”
Get ready to experience Mickey like you've never seen him before! Whether it's a tribute to our mouse's Steamboat Willie beginnings or a magical, fantasy-inspired room dedicated to all-things Fantasia, the exhibition puts a modern, engaging touch on all of its content, while still honoring the cute pop culture icon we all adore.

Artist Daniel Arsham created a super-cool piece.
“It's an usual way of seeing Mickey,” the artist says. “There's something kind of playful. When we think about Disney now, it seems like such a big entity, but it started with a single, individual and an idea.”
It's certainly hard to nail down a favorite!
The exhibit closes with a look back at old-school Mickey merch and a larger-than-life Mickey from curator Darren Romanelli.
This new exhibit, located at 60 10th Ave, will be open from Nov 8–Feb 10 and costs $38. Check out our walk-through of the exhibition on our Instagram and pick up a copy of our holiday issue to read more about Mickey.
As the saying goes, “It was all started by a mouse,” and we couldn't be more grateful. Happy birthday, Mickey!
