The least-populated borough is aiming to become a tourist attraction with the New York Wheel, Empire Outlets and more.

Staten Island is getting a Ferris wheel, and at 625 feet tall, it'll be the biggest one in the world. Yesterday Mayor Bloomberg announced the City Council's unanimous approval of the New York Wheel, as well as a hotel and outlet mall dubbed Empire Outlets. The attractions are part of a $580 million private investment to revitalize and bring out-of-towners to the borough. "Over 2 million tourists take the ferry and they…turn right around and get back onto the ferry," said councilwoman Debi Rose, according to DNAinfo. "Now they have a reason to get off of the ferry and we will no longer be the forgotten borough.

Construction is expected to begin next year. As you can see from the rendering above, the Ferris wheel looks like it will offer some pretty impressive views of the NYC skyline—provided your crew doesn't have a fear of heights.
