Visit the Skate Truck in Central Park or Governors Island this summer
If two-wheeled transportation isn’t your thing, bypass the Citi Bike station this summer and rent some skates instead.

More group-friendly than bikes and more exciting than walking, skates are a fun, slightly retro way to get active with the whole family. If you don’t own your own set, you can rent a pair—of the roller or inline variety—from the Skate Truck, which will be parked in Central Park or on Governors Island on weekends throughout October 27 (FYI—they’ll be in Central Park this Sunday!). Skates are available in youth size 8 to adult size 15, and rentals include a helmet, wrist guards, and knee and elbow pads, available in sizes XS to XL. Kids under 7 must bring their own helmets (keep in mind that children under age 14 are required by law to wear a helmet). When you rent skates and equipment, you’ll also get a free park map so your family can embark on a self-guided roller tour. Visit skatetrucknyc.com for dates, hours, and locations. Two-hour rental $15, four hours $20, all day $25.
