Time Out says

Celebrate the season with one of NYC’s longest-running tree- lighting ceremonies. The 45-foot tree is situated under the park’s arch and, after the first lighting, stays illuminated nightly from 4pm until 1am. The Washington Square Association presents caroling and songbooks are provided just in case you forget the words. Santa Claus is set to make an appearance with candy canes to lead the kids in the illumination countdown. Fifth Ave to Waverly Pl between W 4th and MacDougal Sts. All ages.
