As one of the original Ferus Gallery artists, Billy Al Bengston helped to put Los Angeles on the art-world map in the early-1960s with spray-lacquer paintings that exemplified the slick “Finish-Fetish” character of SoCal art. This show includes a classic series featuring bands or fields of color orbiting around images of motorcycle parts and the BSA motorcycle logo. The series reflect the artist’s personal passion for racing motorbikes.
