The artist's memory of a 1971 Lincoln Center ballet in which she participated as an 11-year-old serves as the jumping-off point for a video and a series of photo silk-screens on felt. The video riffs on a key moment in the event, as the young Simpson danced with her body covered head to toe in gold paint. Here, a group of gilded dancers (wearing Nixon-era Afro wigs to boot) reenact the performance against a stark white background. The silk screens, meanwhile, feature gold-printed images of Avery Fisher Hall and the Metropolitan Opera House.
