“Xaviera Simmons: Convene”

A series of brightly painted overturned canoes add a dash of color to the Long Island City waterfront in this offsite installation created by Simmons for SculptureCenter. The canoes are covered with horizontal stripes representing the flags of all the different countries reflected in the population of Queens—celebrating, as it were, the multicultural character of NYC’s most diverse borough.
